Storage and Logistics

GrainCorp stores and handles wheat, barley, pulses, canola, and sorghum produced in Queensland, NSW and Victoria, through a network of more than 70 high capacity sites situated on branch and main rail lines, and up to 200 other receival sites that are opened and closed during the year, depending on crop size and customer requirements.

During harvest, growers deliver grain to GrainCorp country sites, where it is sampled assessed, and stored. Each GrainCorp country site operates as an open ‘market’, where traders and growers are encouraged to buy and sell grain.

On behalf of growers, buyers, domestic users and exporters, GrainCorp stores and handles approximately half of all grain grown in eastern Australia.

Approximately 500 employees permanently staff the GrainCorp country network, and up to 2,000 seasonal staff are employed to sample and unload grain deliveries from farms at harvest.

GrainCorp Rail and Road Logistics

GrainCorp manages the operation of up to 17 trains with an annual haulage capacity of up to 3 million tonnes.

These trains move grain from country storage sites across Queensland, NSW, and Victoria to domestic customers and export elevators.

GrainCorp also manages more than 1 million tonnes of road freight per year, carting grain from country elevators, to domestic customers and to export elevators.
