Feeding Tips

  • Whole oats are particularly safe in the early phase of feeding, have a roughage affect and provide energy
  • If oats are the only grain used, performance will not be as high as with wheat, corn, triticale or barley
  • Lupins and grains can be coarsely rolled if being fed in bunks (troughs)
  • Lambs are often easier to get onto feed if they have consumed grain mixes while with their mothers
  • Feeding out in shallow troughs is often the best way to get lambs onto feed before putting them onto self-feeders
