Technical Services Laboratories and Ports
The laboratory’s role is to provide accurate quality information for all stakeholders.
Toowoomba provides the equipment and training for grain quality management for the receival, storage and outturn of grain from GrainCorp’s receival sites in Queensland. Toowoomba laboratory maintains, calibrates and offers technical support for all quality testing systems in the lab and at GrainCorp receival sites in the region.
Toowoomba’s focal point is wheat. The laboratory is equipped with a Buhler Test Mill, Flour Rheology Testing equipment and a Test Bakery. This allows the team to carry out detailed technical testing of flour and end products to assist in marketing the crop. This information supports buyers and customers in understanding the grain quality of Australian wheat.
Narrabri laboratory is positioned in the heart of the richest grain growing region of eastern Australia
Narrabri provides the equipment and training for grain quality management for the receival, storage and outturn of grain from GrainCorp’s receival sites in the northern NSW region.
Narrabri laboratory maintains, calibrates and offers technical support of all quality testing equipment in the lab and at all GrainCorp receival sites in the region. Narrabri Research & Development is also responsible for investigating and implementing new testing procedures and technologies needed to suit the current harvest conditions as well as improving the efficiency of testing equipment and procedures already in place. It also conducts food safety testing including testing for mycotoxins and coordinates pesticide residue testing.
The majority of R&D work is based on the use of Near Infra Red (NIR) technology in grain analysers that determine the moisture, protein and oil contents of grain and seeds. To achieve this, we are constantly analysing new NIR technology and calibrations to ensure GrainCorp’s testing equipment is up to date and at an international standard. In conjunction with NIR, we also investigate non-NIR equipment that may have the potential for use in GrainCorp’s system.
Temora laboratory is a NATA accredited Laboratory providing equipment, training and expertise for the receival and outloading of grain to and from Graincorp country storages throughout Southern NSW.
Temora laboratory provides equipment, training and expertise for the receival and outloading of grain to and from GrainCorp country storages throughout southern NSW.
In addition we maintain, calibrate and offer technical support in the use of quality testing equipment used in the laboratory at around 70 receival sites across the division. Each year we train grain assessors in the use of testing equipment and grain classification procedures.
Temora’s focal point is oilseeds. There are a range of tests carried out on oilseeds that include moisture, protein, test weight, oil content, GMO and free fatty acid testing. Temora uses reference methods as well as rapid methods for oilseed analysis.
The laboratory in Marong services grain receival sites in Graincorp's South East and North Western Victoria regions.
The main responsibility of the Marong Laboratory is to administer the grain quality management program for receival, storage and outturn of grain from the company’s receival sites in Victoria. We provide data and grain samples to GrainCorp’s Storage & Handling customers such as domestic and international traders and growers.
The focal point of the Marong laboratory is barley. Marong has the primary responsibility of monitoring and reporting the germination of malt barley stocks. The laboratory also identifies barley stock suitable for malting and non-standard malting uses such as food barley.
