At the end of 2020, renowned artist Geoffrey Carran completed his biggest work to date: a 900-square-metre mural of Australian birds on GrainCorp’s decommissioned silos at Goroke, in Victoria’s West Wimmera region.
Specialising in painting native birds, Geoffrey’s mural features a giant magpie, which is the local Aboriginal word for ‘Goroke’.
While the silo art mural is a beautiful addition to the local landscape, for many in the town, it’s a lifeline for attracting travellers and promoting local tourism.
The story of how it all unfolded and reinvigorated the community has been immortalised in a fantastic documentary by Bryan Hynes, ‘Birds Eye View’.
