GrainCorp is set to boost its Animal Nutrition services for Australian livestock producers, following the successful acquisition of XF Australia’s (XFA) Performance Feeds and Nutrition Services Australia (NSA) businesses.
XFA provides high quality feed supplement products and expertise in nutritional consulting to Australia’s feedlot and grazing sectors.
GrainCorp’s Animal Nutrition business provides over 400,000 tonnes of feed across Australia and New Zealand each year, and supplies 300,000 tonnes of canola meal to the animal feed market.
GrainCorp Managing Director and CEO Robert Spurway said the acquisition of these two leading businesses complement’s the company’s existing services.
“GrainCorp is excited to welcome the XFA teams into our Nutrition and Energy business and expand our Animal Nutrition offering to Australian producers and customers,” he said.
“Performance Feeds and NSA have long been recognised for their expertise in the provision of feed supplements and nutritional consulting services within the Australian livestock industry.
“Their reputation for excellence aligns seamlessly with GrainCorp’s commitment to delivering high-quality solutions to customers and producers worldwide.
“The transaction underscores GrainCorp’s strategy of disciplined growth in targeted business areas, ensuring ongoing earnings and countercyclicality in our business.”

XFA Founder and major shareholder, Dr R. Hollis Klett said:
“After 38 years of success, I wanted to work with a company aligned with our culture and capable of supporting us through our next growth phase.
“GrainCorp’s commitment to service and quality products reassures us that our customers will be well supported into the future.”
He added: “Our team are committed to working with GrainCorp to ensure a smooth transition and ongoing success.
“Seeing my vision grow and prosper has been my greatest achievement and pleasure, and I wish all involved every success and a prosperous future.”
This acquisition will grow GrainCorp’s provision of molasses-based feed and other supplements to Australian producers, and enhance the development of sustainable feed solutions – including Asparagopsis seaweed products.
GrainCorp’s collaboration with FutureFeed, established by CSIRO and other organisations to drive the commercialisation of Asparagopsis solutions, aims to tackle methane emissions from ruminant animals, a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions.
GrainCorp’s Head of Animal Nutrition Jeremy Melloy said: “We’re proud to collaborate with the industry in providing a sustainable path forward for Australian livestock farmers, and Performance Feeds and NSA will play a pivotal role in supporting our efforts.
“I’m excited to leverage the expertise and insights of all teams to design innovative feed solutions, lead world-class trials, and meet the challenges of scaling up the production and adoption of sustainable feeds.
“Overall, the acquisition will support our efforts in developing sustainable feed solutions, as well as driving sustainable growth and innovation in the animal nutrition sector.”
GrainCorp Animal Nutrition brands now include Molafos, Rumifeed, Energo, Performance Feeds, Anipro and WeatherPro, as well as products such as crude molasses and dry feeds.
