GrainCorp welcomes National Food Security Strategy
March 04, 2025

GrainCorp welcomes today’s announcement by Federal Agriculture Minister the Hon. Julie Collins MP on the development of a new national food security strategy: Feeding Australia.

Australia enjoys a strong and reliable food supply, underpinned by resilient agricultural supply chains and a world-class farming sector. The Government’s $3.5 million commitment is an important step toward strengthening this position and enhancing the sustainability of the agricultural and food sectors.

As a leading agribusiness in Australia’s food and fuel supply chains, GrainCorp looks forward to contributing to this important initiative.

GrainCorp CEO Robert Spurway said the company supports the Government’s efforts to reinforce food security, and that continued focus on supply chains and industry collaboration will be critical to maintaining Australia’s leadership in agricultural production.

“Australia is fortunate to have a strong, reliable food supply supported by efficient supply chains and a highly skilled farming sector,” said Mr Spurway.

“Food security goes hand in hand with energy security, and a coordinated national approach will help future-proof Australia’s supply chains and ensure we remain a global leader in sustainable agricultural production.

“By strengthening our supply chains and examining the potential of new markets, including the biofuels feedstock industry, this initiative has the potential to create jobs, drive investment and unlock further economic opportunities for regional Australia.

“Homegrown crops such as canola not only contribute to a reliable food supply but can also play a key role in the development of a thriving renewable energy sector. Ensuring the right policy settings, underpinned by industry expertise, will be critical to balancing food security with new market opportunities.

“Collaboration with industry, policymakers, and growers will be key to ensuring the strategy delivers long-term benefits for Australia’s agricultural sector and the broader economy.”
